DAY 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Wiñayhuayna – Aguas Calientes

Very early today your private guide will go to your hotel to pick you up and together arrive at the Ollantaytambo station. Our trip begins by tourist train and approximately after 1 hour by train we got off at km 104 ; the Royal Inca Trail begins with a hike to Chachabamba (2270m/7448f), where our guide will inform us about the ancient function of this archaeological site.
After a few hours walking, breathing fresh air and observing nature, we will arrive at the Wiñayhuayna archaeological complex (2650 m/8694 f), which in Quechua means “forever young” and has a height of 2680 meters above sea level and is considered one of the most attractive sites on this tour and the most important archaeological site before reaching Machu Picchu.
This walk includes a box lunch (cold lunch). Please note that you will need to carry your own box lunch during the hike in your backpack.
After recharging our energy, we will continue our walk for an hour and a half until we reach Intipunku (Puerta del Sol) where you can enjoy the first panoramic views of Machu Picchu. (2400m / 7874f).
Since we have to continue our hike and descend to our hotel in Aguas Calientes, we will only spend a little time at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary on the first day and descend to Aguas Calientes by bus to rest and get ready for the following day

We will get up and after breakfast, our guide will meet you at your hotel to take you to the bus station to take the buses to Machupicchu, after 25 minutes ride, you will arrive to the citadel.
We recommend to leave early because at this time the stage is less crowded and the morning is a good time to enjoy the tranquility and the ancient spirit of the best known archaeological site on the continent.
Your guide will give us detailed information about Machu Picchu and the history and culture of the Incas for about 2 hours.
If you have time you could enjoy at your own the citadel for a little bit before you take the bus back to Aguas Calientes.
We will leave Aguas Calientes in the late afternoon, where we will take the train back to the Ollantaytambo station and then we will transfer you to your hotel in Cusco in the evening.
