Itinerary

1
Day 1

Iquitos - Amazon River

Pick up at the airport and transfer to the Double tree by Hilton Iquitos hotel, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch before transfer by private vehicle to the main port of the city of Iquitos to embark. Our staff will escort you to your suite, specially equipped with all the comforts: comfortable beds, pure Peruvian pima cotton sheets, cotton bathrobes, air conditioning, private bathroom with shower, and amenities.

Before starting the navigation, our bartender will serve you a cocktail prepared with regional fruits and pisco, the most popular national liquor in Peru. Do not miss the opportunity to savor it while enjoying a 360 degree view in the observation area or a panoramic view in the indoor or outdoor lounge.

Once we start sailing and before the welcome dinner, the naturalist guides will provide us with an overview of the trip program, such as activities, routes, information on wildlife and vegetation, the geographical and historical background, as well as other details. tools. Day 2

Amazon River - Kukama Native Reserve - Marañón River - Puerto Prado Community - Nauta Caño

Before breakfast, embark on a boat excursion down the Amazon River to explore the flora and fauna of the area. Back on the ship you can enjoy our breakfast buffet, which offers a daily selection of traditional dishes, Peruvian specialties, freshly baked homemade products and a variety of freshly prepared juices.

After breakfast we will be ready to start a new excursion to the confluence of the Ucayali and Marañón rivers, the place where these two rivers join, giving rise to the Amazon River. At this point we will be able to observe the gray and pink dolphins.

Before noon we will return to the ship for lunch on board, after which we will have time to rest. It is important that you be present at the talk about the origin of the Amazon and the hydrography of the rivers to then start an excursion to Puerto Prado, where we will take a walk to observe the “Amazonian Victory” also known as Victoria Regia, the largest aquatic plant in the world. planet.

Return to the ship, live music and dinner on board. After dinner, we will go on a night excursion in search of alligators, tarantulas, frogs and other nocturnal species.

Day 3

Yanayacu de Pucate - Japan Lagoon - Yanayaquillo - San Regis - Natural Park

Boat excursion through the various lakes and lagoons, until arriving at the Japan Lagoon. There our picnic breakfast will take place and we will appreciate one of the best preserved and protected areas, the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. This area is popular for watching pink dolphins. Before returning to the Zafiro, we will explore the Yanaquillo ravine.

Once on the boat we prepare for our kayak outing. We will live closely the experience of being among the black waters of the river and we will be able to enjoy a bath. Return and lunch at the Zafiro. Before the afternoon activity, the guides will give a talk on Amazonian philosophy.

In the afternoon we will start a walk through the jungle and the suspension bridges, which will allow us to admire the richness of the jungle from the top of the trees.

Back on the ship, our bartender awaits us with a Peruvian cocktail demonstration; to then enjoy live music, before the gala dinner with the captain of the ship.

Day 4

Marañón River - Samiria River - San Regis

Breakfast and visit the native community of San Regis, where we will learn about their lifestyle and traditions. We will also learn some of the ancestral traditions with the community shaman. Our guides will act as interpreters during this experience, where we will have the opportunity to ask you questions about spiritual connections and their abilities to heal the soul.

After living this experience, we will continue with the ceremony of planting a tree as a positive contribution to the environment. There we will also see how the women of the community exhibit in a small craft market, pieces and objects made with their own hands.

Return and lunch at the Zafiro. After a rest time, the guides will give us information about the myths and legends of the Amazon.

In the afternoon we will begin our exploration by boat towards the Shiriyacu stream. There we will look for a space to fish for the famous piranhas using local equipment and techniques.

Back on the boat, we will be able to enjoy the light and colors that the sunset offers us. Return to the Zafiro, live music and dinner.

Day 5

Marañón River - Nauta - Landing - Iquitos

Before breakfast we will visit Nauta, the second most important city in the region. Upon arrival, we will take a motorcycle taxi tour until we reach the local market where we will learn first-hand what the commercial life of the city is like. Visit to the Sapi Sapi Lagoon, a farm for paiches, the second largest freshwater fish in the world.

Discover a different habitat, surrounded by palm trees and fruit trees. We will also see charapita turtles, butterflies, different birds and different fish that live in this lagoon. Return to the Zafiro for breakfast. After breakfast we will proceed to disembark.

On the way to the airport, we will visit the Amazon Rescue Center (CREA), where biologists and volunteers take care of manatees, an endangered species that the authorities have rescued.

We will observe how the manatees are treated and prepared for their reinsertion into their natural habitat. Likewise, we will be able to see other animals that have also been rescued.

  • Growing Season: High level of rivers and rains – December – May. Ideal for travelers who prefer to explore the Amazon and its tributaries through boat excursions, instead of walking.
  • Empty Season: Low level of the rivers and a lot of sun – June – November. Ideal for travelers who prefer to discover the flora and fauna of the Amazon through guided walks in the tropical jungle.
  • The traveler may carry a suitcase of up to 23 kg. On board La Perla an informal style is maintained. We recommend bringing comfortable shoes, light long pants and long-sleeved shirts for our excursions. Also: a cap or hat, binoculars, sunglasses, sunscreen, extra socks, mosquito repellent.
