We will start our City Tour Walking tour visiting the San Lazaro neighborhood, passing by the San Francisco church and surroundings, we will arrive to the Plaza de Armas, surrounded by its three granite portals with brick and lime vaults, and the central fountain with a beautiful bronze fountain of three plates crowned with the figure of a soldier of the XVI century, called “El Tuturutu”.
Then we visited the Cathedral Basilica (1656), considered one of the first religious monuments, neoclassical style, destroyed by fire in 1844 and rebuilt in 1868. Its front has a length of 107 meters and is decorated with 70 columns of classical style, two towers and two bronze medallions.
Then we went to the Convent of the Company of Jesus, built by the Jesuits, maximum expression of the religious architecture where its church stands out (year 1573), as well as its cloisters with arches carved in ashlar, typical white volcanic stone. Its walls, domes and pilasters show an exuberant baroque style and the altars and altarpieces are covered with gold leaf.
Finally we visit the Monastery of Santa Catalina (1580), a citadel built in ashlar with an area of 20 thousand m2.
