Day 1
Tour to the Shipibo Community
Tour duration: 4 hours.
We will begin by picking up participants at 9:00 a.m. Then we will board private transportation headed to the district of Rímac, located approximately 40 minutes from the districts of Barranco or Miraflores.
During the trip, we will share basic information to provide context for our visit. Topics such as migration, ethnic diversity, indigenous languages, environmental challenges in the Amazon, as well as power plants such as Ayahuasca will be frequently discussed. Upon arriving at the community, you will appreciate another social and cultural reality of Lima. We will take a short walk and then enter the home of one of the artisan teachers, where we will spend most of our time. Your participation will be very active, as you will create a piece of indigenous art together with the artisan.
At the end of the visit, we will take you back to your accommodation.
This is a unique experience in Lima, filled with Amazonian art and culture. We will take you to the district of Rímac, home to the city’s largest urban indigenous community, Cantagallo, made up of more than 400 families of the Shipibo-Konibo ethnic group. This community is notable for its women, many of whom are master artisans and muralists who have painted colorful murals in various districts of the capital.
Through this experience, you are contributing to the invaluable work of women artisans, including teachers Wilma Maynas, Silvia Ricopa, and Olga Mori, pioneers in the dissemination and respect for the Shipibo-Konibo legacy in the city of Lima.
