We will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco at approximately 6:30 AM and with our private transportation, we will take you further to the town of Chinchero. This typical town that still has many Inca ruins, is one of the main places in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. From this town we will follow the Vilcanota river until we reach the town of Ollantaytambo. This town had an important fortress during the reign of Manco Capac, especially when the Spanish began to gain land in this region (1535). From Ollantaytambo, we will climb the Abra Malaga pass, which is located at a height of 4350 meters above sea level.
We will arrive at this pass around noon. In this pass, you will be given mountain bikes, which you can use to make the descent on paved roads in the middle of the jungle (when the weather does not allow it, we will do this part of the hike by car). We ride our mountain bikes to the small community of Carrizales where we will enjoy our breakfast and a little break. After our well-deserved rest, we continue descending with our mountain bikes through attractive villages in the middle of the tropical forest, which will take us approximately 3 or 4 hours. On the way, we will visit the archaeological site of Wamanmarka. After this, we will offer you the time to enjoy the beautiful landscape with its typical vegetation and its wonderful fauna. Upon reaching Santa María (1430 m.) we will have lunch and spend the night in the house of a local family in Maranura (about 10 minutes from Santa María). In the afternoon, there will be some exchange with the family about the harvest of their coffee and cocoa, depending on the season.
We will get up at approximately 6:00 AM to try the delicious local coffee and fruit juices (depending on the season), as well as the succulent breakfast made by our cook (7:30 AM). We will walk along the bank of the Vilcanota River, where the landscape becomes a little steeper on one of the ancient Inca trails.
Here there are also chasms up to 800 meters deep. We have our breakfast in the town of Qellomayo, a one hour walk further. We can see the local fauna from very close, in particular the hummingbird, parrots, eagles, etc. We also have the opportunity to pick local fruits like oranges, tangerines, pacay (Andean fruit), mangoes, cocoa, coffee. , etc. We continue along the river bank to reach the Cocalmayo Jacuzzis, near the town of Santa Teresa. After having enjoyed the hot springs, we continue to Santa Teresa (1850m). Here we will have dinner and rest.
We will continue our walk on the bank of the Urubamba River for approximately 3 hours until we reach Aguas Calientes, a small town at the foot of Machu Picchu. On our way to this city, we will visit the Mandor natural park where we will discover a variety of local flowers and, if we are lucky, also the life of local birds. In the city of Aguas Calientes, we will have lunch and rest for the night.
We will leave our hotel early in the morning after having breakfast and immediately take the bus to Machu Picchu at 5:30 AM, for an approximate half an hour ride. On the bus, we will be surprised by the amazing view of the sunset over Machu Picchu. Our guide will offer you a guided tour of approximately 2 hours and after this you will have time to visit Machu Picchu at your own pace. When you have survived the hard climb of this mountain, you will be rewarded by a breathtaking view over Machu Picchu.
The tourist buses will offer you the descent back to Aguas Calientes, from where we will take the train to Ollantaytambo, where our bus awaits you to continue to Cusco.
